I mentioned in an earlier post that we were having some rough weather. We had quite a bit of rain and wind on Wednesday. As usual the wind seemed to pick up into the evening. As I was sitting on the couch cuddling with my little ones and waiting for Daddy to get home from cleaning at the church, we were listening to the wind howl through the trees, whip branches against our windows, and rattle the very house we were sitting in!
Little Man's eyes were wide as he looked at his big sister, "Ooohhh, whatdat? Whatdat noyyyssse?" It was what came out of his dear big sister's mouth next that dropped my jaw.
Y'see I have recently talked with several friends about that fact that I don't think we as parents give our kiddos enough credit as to what they "pick up on" when we're talking, during church, etc. Then all of the sudden...out of the blue...something profound comes out their mouths...something that shows that they ARE getting it and not only ARE they getting it, but they are processing a WHOLE lot more than we think.
Well, we have often talked about the wind around our house. Our house in Pennsylvania sat on top of a hill, and we often heard the wind swirl around our house. Now our home sits above the pasture, and we are finding that the winds in the Midwest can be quite strong. Our family room has a wall of windows, and that makes the sound of the wind magnified, it seems. One time when Dad was visiting we were experiencing some wind, and my dad expressed to Cel his love for the wind. This obviously made an impact on her.
Because her response to her brother's fears was (in a hushed tone), "It's okay; it's just the wind. And guess what...the wind is NEAT because it shows how STRONG God is!"
Yeah, see what I mean...dropped my jaw! What a blessing! From my little girlie's mouth I received a reminder of our God's awesome Creation and His continued control over it!
What a great big sister, and a great listener, too!
ReplyDeleteI love those kind of comments. Jules, about Cel's age, peeped in, after hearing the word glory in our devotional, "I know what that is. Mr. Shane preached on glory!" She was listening to the sermon when I thought she was daydreaming. :)
